The interactive security totems installed by the city of Porto Alegre had 47% “accidental” activation in the first month of operation, according to a report released this Tuesday (23).
In total, there were 445 records in this period. In addition to accidental activation, the list includes: tests and maintenance carried out on totems (37%), occurrences that triggered the equipment's anti-vandalism system (7%), theft and robbery (5%), requests for help (2%), requests information (1%), fights (1%) and records of disappearances (1%).
“The totems are very new equipment. We must wait for the population to adapt the correct use of equipment to their culture”, said the Secretary of Security, Alexandre Aragon.
According to the city hall, the equipment also has a prevention function. In the rain last Tuesday (16), the equipment sent audio messages to the population about the Civil Defense alert.
8 of the 10 planned totems were installed. They are missing from the Otávio Rocha Viaduct and around Praça da Matriz.
The interactive security totems are four meters high, are shielded and have an anti-vandalism sensor.
The totems are in section 1 of Orla do Guaíba, which concentrated 29% of the activations; Elevada da Conceição (25%); Bus station (15%); Pop Center (12%); section 3 of Orla do Guaíba (8%); Araújo Vianna Auditorium (4%); Avenida Salgado Filho (4%); and Largo Glênio Peres (3%).
