While Strada, HB20 and Argo topped the ranking of the best-selling 0 km cars of 2021, there are models that seem “forgotten” by buyers.
Whether due to lack of investment to give visibility to the car or simply because of the automaker’s strategy in the country, there are models that end up with low sales volume, but are still being produced.
Check out 10 models that are still available for sale, but that look like they are not even remembered by buyers:
Peugeot 2008
Manufactured in Brazil since 2015, the Peugeot 2008 tried to hitch a ride on the increased demand for SUVs, but its timing was not good. Shortly after, big names like Honda HR-V and Jeep Renegade arrived. The 2008 never took off in sales and its new generation, already presented in Europe, is not even expected to arrive in Brazil.
A good reason to get out of line, right? Wrong. The model continues to be sold normally. After the creation of Stellantis, which brought together Fiat, Jeep, RAM, Peugeot and Citroën, the 2008 found hope in direct sales. Today, it can be found in stores with prices starting at R$116,990, one of the cheapest compact SUVs.
JAC T50 Plus
Heading the wave of Chinese brands in Brazil in the early 2010s, JAC Motors even found early success. However, the country’s economic instability and the devaluation of the real have taken the company’s lead in recent years. More recently, the company has focused its efforts on sales of electric vehicles, which have lower taxation, making prices more competitive.
But the brand has never stopped offering combustion models here and is present with three models to serve the SUV segment, such as the T50 Plus, which has a price starting at R$129,990.
Kia Cerato
Unlike Hyundai, which has a legitimate branch in Brazil, Kia Motors is represented in the country by an independent import group. It is worth remembering that both are part of the same South Korean group. Thus, the brand never ascended to the leading role in the national industry since the reopening of imports in the 1990s.
Some models like the Besta van and SUVs like the Sportage even gained notoriety, but did you know that Kia sells several other vehicles? One of them is Cerato. In addition to the brand not selling in large volumes, the sedan segment is falling in share. In any case, the Kia Cerato remains on offer and has prices starting at R$132,990
Suzuki S-Cross
Suzuki’s best-known product in Brazil are the jeeps of the Jimny line. The success is such that it is offered here both in the latest global generation, with the surname Sierra, and in the old one. But the Jimny is not the only Suzuki vehicle in Brazil. The brand also bets on the small SUV segment.
In addition to the Vitara, a name that was successful in the past, Suzuki offers the S-Cross in our market, which is on the fine line of classification between adventurous hatchbacks and compact SUVs. At the very least, the model can be equipped with all-wheel drive. Sales volumes aren’t that high, so you might not see him on the street for a while. But it is being sold normally and has prices starting at R$ 178,990.
Mitsubishi L200 Triton
Known in Brazil for the off-road capability of its pickups, Mitsubishi offers its customers some options, including models made in Brazil. Having an assembly line here also allows the brand the possibility of continuing to produce previous generations of models that have already been renewed.
In September 2020, the brand’s best-known pickup, the L200 Triton, gained a new generation here, the Triton Sport, with a renewed look and mechanics. Even so, the previous model is still on sale normally and has prices starting at R$ 217,990.
Lexus UX
Unlike in the North American market, Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus, has never found great sales success in Brazil. To try to bring a differential to its products, the brand bet on electrification and all its cars offered here are already hybrids. But do you know what they are? The automaker offers, for example, the Lexus UX, the brand’s entry-level SUV, with prices starting at R$264,590.
Hyundai ix35
Launched back in 2010, the Hyundai ix35 was nothing more than the second generation of the Tucson, the brand’s most popular SUV. The name only changed so that the old and the new could coexist in the stores. But this is almost 12 years old. Even with the presentation of the “New Tucson” in 2016, right, Hyundai’s veteran SUV continues to be offered normally on the brand’s website, which does not disclose its prices publicly.
Subaru XV
Like Kia, Subaru operates in Brazil through an independent local importer, not a subsidiary itself. The sales volumes of the Japanese brand have never been high and maybe that’s why you don’t remember that the company is here yet. The Subaru XV, the brand’s compact SUV, for example, is still on the market and starts at R$174,900. It is the cheapest brand in our country.
Nissan Leaf
The Nissan Leaf was one of the first purely electric cars to sell in large quantities globally. In the market for more than 11 years, it arrived in Brazil for a period of testing in the beginning, running as a taxi and even a car. Sales to the public only started in 2019, with the arrival of a new generation. However, with so many electric cars hitting the Brazilian market, you might have forgotten about it. If you want one, prices start from R$ 297,140.
Ford Territory
Ford has gone through ups and downs since it stopped manufacturing in Brazil. Acting as an importer and focusing on SUVs and pickup trucks, the brand offers the Territory here, a model that is manufactured and imported from China. With a similar size to a Jeep Compass, but costing from R$ 219,990, its share in sales is small and may end up forgotten in a category other strong names.
