According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least six people were killed and 15 injured by the Israeli strike in the Ghobeiry area.
The ministry said the statement was a preliminary update and suggested the number of casualties could still rise.
The Israeli military said a senior Hezbollah commander believed to be in charge of the group’s missile unit was killed in an air strike on an apartment building south of Beirut on Tuesday.
The Israel Defense Forces identified the commander as Ibrahim Qubaisi and added that “during the attack, there were other senior commanders of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile array” at the scene.
The attack destroyed two upper floors of the building in Beirut. Hezbollah has not yet commented on any casualties as a result of the attack.
This is the fifth Israeli attack on the Hezbollah-held southern suburbs of Beirut this year.
