See New British Stamp With Image Of King Charles III

New “everyday” stamps bearing the likeness of King Charles III were unveiled for the first time on Wednesday, the latest item in the UK to undergo a makeover following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

From coins and banknotes to the official royal cipher used by the government, the UK has been slowly introducing replacements with the new monarch since his mother’s death in September 2022.

In keeping with a tradition that dates back to the first Penny Black in 1840, the new “definitive” stamp uses an adapted version of a portrait of Charles.

“As with all stamps, the monarch has approved them and so we hope he is happy with this design,” said David Gold, director of policy and external relations at Royal Mail.

“The guidance we received was not to try to be too resourceful or try to deviate in a different direction, but rather to maintain that traditional image that we are used to.”

The new seal, which will go on sale in early April, consists only of the king’s head and its value on a plain background.

Charles is the seventh British monarch to appear on a definitive stamp. Existing stamps with Elizabeth’s image will remain valid and in distribution until stocks run out, Royal Mail said.
