The second day of the Democratic Convention was marked by the presence of former US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, who declared their support for Kamala Harris in the competitive race for the White House.
The country’s current vice president symbolically accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination to run in the presidential elections on Tuesday (20), after delegates — a figure in the US electoral system — at the Democratic Convention held a ceremonial vote.
Kamala and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are in Wisconsin, where they are holding a rally. A speech by the vice president was broadcast at the Democratic Convention, which is taking place in Chicago.
“We are very honored to be your nominees. This is a people-driven campaign and together we will chart a new path forward,” the vice president said.
Speaking about Kamala, Obama commented that “we have a chance to elect someone who has spent his entire life trying to give people the same chances that America gave him.”
Michelle Obama attacked Donald Trump during her speech at the Convention on Tuesday.
“For years, Donald Trump has done everything in his power to try to make people fear us. His narrow, limited view of the world has made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard-working, highly educated, successful people who happen to be black,” she said at the event in Chicago.
“Who’s going to tell him that the job he’s currently looking for might just be one of those black jobs?” she added.
The phrase was a dig at Trump’s comments at the National Association of Black Journalists, where he said immigrants were taking “black jobs.”
