See the criteria for donating blood when there is a risk of infection with the coronavirus

The Ministry of Health and Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) released this Tuesday (25) an update of the technical criteria for the clinical screening of candidates for blood donation at risk of infection with the new coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2), which causes Covid-19.

According to the document, candidates for blood donation with a diagnosis or suspicion of Covid-19 and who have shown symptoms of the disease, even in mild or moderate cases, will be considered unfit for blood donation for a period of ten days after complete recovery. of the disease.

People who present a positive diagnostic test for Sars-CoV-2 will also be considered unfit, even if they are asymptomatic. In this case, the period of incapacity is ten days after the exam collection date.

Anyone who had close contact with an infected person during the period of transmission of the disease in the last ten days or with individuals who had a positive clinical or laboratory diagnosis for Covid-19 is unable to donate blood for a period of seven days after the last contact with these people.

Another restriction refers to candidates for blood donation who remained in voluntary isolation or indicated by a medical team, due to symptoms of possible infection by Sars-CoV-2.

According to the resolution, these individuals should be considered unfit for the period of isolation, as defined by the Ministry of Health.

In this update of the criteria, the unsuitability for donation of people who have moved or who come from countries with cases of Covid-19 was removed.
