2021 was a difficult year for the national automotive industry. Rising prices, paralyzed assembly lines and a shortage of components made production resume slowly.
At the same time, buyers have to wait months for a new car to be delivered. So much so that, last year, the 0 km car sales segment grew by only 1.21% compared to 2020. The demand for vehicles, however, did not fall. The option found by many Brazilians over the past year was to buy a new or used vehicle.
Although the prices of these models have also gone up, at least there are no queues in this case. Second-hand car and light commercial sales figures for 2021 reflect this trend.
According to Fenabrave (National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution), last year, sales of used passenger and light commercial cars reached 11,235,343 units, almost six times more than the 1,974,431 license plates of 0 km registered in 2021. In addition, both automobiles and commercials saw growth of nearly 20% over 2020.
