A video obtained by CNN shows what Donald Trump said seconds after he was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday (13). The former president was seen with blood on his ear and cheek and was rushed off the stage by the United States Secret Service after the attack on him.
The audio reveals how the chaotic scene unfolded as seen by Trump and those involved in getting him to safety.
Watch the moment:
Trump was in the middle of a speech when several shots rang out. He covered his ears and ducked as Secret Service agents surrounded him. “Get down, get down, get down,” one of them said. Another shot rang out and a woman screamed.
In the transcript of the audio of the shooting, the former president asks if “we’re okay” and upon receiving confirmation that “the shooter has been neutralized,” he says, “Can we move on?” When he is answered with a “let’s go,” the Republican then says, “let me get my shoes.”
A Secret Service agent then responds, “I’m with you, sir.” Trump repeats, “Let me get my shoes.”
The security guard then says, “Wait, your head is bleeding,” and adds, “Sir, we have to get to the car.” Trump repeats again that he needs to get his shoes, and says, “Wait, wait, wait.”
Shooter was killed at the scene
The gunman who authorities say carried out the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was a 20-year-old registered Republican who had previously made a small contribution to a Democratic-aligned group, according to public records.
The gunman, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired several shots from an “elevated position” on the roof of a building outside the rally before being killed by security personnel.
In addition to the shooter, one person in the audience died, according to authorities, and two other participants were seriously injured. The case is under investigation.
The shooting occurred Saturday afternoon (13) at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
