See who is Fernando Borges, interim president of Petrobras

THE Petrobras announced Petrobras’ Executive Director of Exploration and Production, Fernando Borges, as the company’s new interim president.

He assumes his position after the resignation of José Mauro Coelho, who left the state’s command on Monday (20) amid pressure from the government and a part of the Petrobras Board of Directors.

Fernando Borges has 38 years of professional experience in the company, and assumes the presidency interimly after an appointment of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Márcio Andrade Weber.

The change by Weber’s appointment is provided for in the company’s Bylaws, which determine the exercise of the position on an interim basis until the election of the new president.

Career

Fernando Assumpção Borges graduated from the Federal University of Uberlândia and holds an Executive MBA from COPPEAD/UFRJ, in addition to having participated in the Advanced Management Program at the European Institute of Business Administration (Insead), in France.

The interim president began his career at Petrobras in 1983, having held various managerial positions in the exploration and production area, in which he held the position of director before assuming the interim presidency of the state-owned company.

He previously served as an executive manager at the company, initially serving as executive management for libra and later becoming executive external relations manager.

In April 2016, Fernando Borges took over the direction of the Instituto Brasileiro de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (IBP), where he was in charge until March 2020. He is currently a member of the IBP board.

By indication of Petrobras itself, he performs the role of director of the Brazilian Association of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Companies (ABEP) also since 2016.
