Police officers involved with the PCC
An operation seeks to arrest five civil police officers from São Paulo suspected of working for the First Command of the Capital (PCC), this Tuesday morning (17).
THE CNN found that the targets were a police chief and four civil police officers. Operation Tacitus is carried out by the Federal Police and the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO) of the Public Ministry, with support from the Internal Affairs Division of the Civil Police of SP.
The action came from the intersection of several investigations into the PCC, including the murder of businessman Vinícius Gritzbach, executed at Guarulhos Airport on November 8th.
According to the analysis of the CNN Pedro Duran, police chief Fábio Baena and three civil police officers have already been arrested in today’s operation. Baena was mentioned by Gritzbach in the businessman’s plea bargain to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The police are investigating the crimes of manipulation and leaking of police investigations, selling protection to criminals and corrupting agents to benefit the criminal faction’s money laundering scheme.
The investigation began with the analysis of evidence obtained in several police investigations that involved financial transactions, award-winning collaboration and testimonies.
The investigation revealed the complex way in which those investigated structured themselves to demand bribes and launder money to meet the interests of the criminal organization.
This Tuesday, 130 federal police officers and Internal Affairs agents served eight arrest warrants and 13 search and seizure warrants in the cities of São Paulo, Bragança, Igaratá and Ubatuba.
Suspects may face charges of criminal organization, active and passive corruption and concealment of capital. The combined sentences can reach 30 years in prison.
