A plane exploded after an unsuccessful landing this Thursday morning (9) at Ubatuba airport, north coast of São Paulo. On board the aircraft were businesspeople Mireylle Fries, her husband Bruno Almeida Souza and the couple’s two children. The information was confirmed by the mayor of Mineiros (GO), Aleomar Rezende (MDB), in a post on social media.
The accident caused the death of pilot Paulo Seghetto, who was revived, but did not survive. The mayor of the city of Goiás also lamented the victim’s death. Three people who were on the street and were affected by the accident also suffered injuries, but were not at risk of death, according to Ubatuba city hall.
In an interview with CNN the mayor of Ubatuba, Flávia Pascoal (PL), reported that Mireylle Fries underwent emergency surgery in the city’s Santa Casa. Bruno and his children were also treated and are awaiting transfer to the Hospital Regional do Litoral Norte, in Caraguatatuba.
The mayor of Mineiros highlighted that Mireylle Fries is the daughter of a well-known rural producer couple in the region. “We express our solidarity with the Fries family, who are facing this difficult time”, published Rezende.

What is known about the accident
The plane took off at around 9 am from Mineiros airport, in the interior of Goiás. The municipality is located around 425 kilometers from Goiânia and close to the state’s borders with Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais.
“After landing, the aircraft overran the runway, crossed the fence at Cabeceira 09 and hit a woman and a child,” reports Voa, concessionaire at Ubatuba airport. “The weather conditions were degraded, with rain and a wet track”, he adds. The accident occurred around 10 am.
A security camera recorded the moment the aircraft left the runway and exploded as it entered the sea. Some people even run after the accident.
Pilot death
Pilot Paulo Seghetto, who commanded the plane, died in the accident. He shared photos in his pilot and aircraft uniforms on social media. One of the photos, in fact, was of the Cessna Citation 525 CJ1 model jet, registration number PR-GFS, the same one seen in this morning’s accident.
