“Seinfeld” actor reveals diagnosis and cure for prostate cancer

The actor Michael Richards known for playing Cosmo Kramer in “Seinfeld “, revealed that he had received a diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2018.

The information will be disclosed in the book “Entrances and Exits”, which the actor will launch on June 4, in the United States. There is still no information about the launch of the book in Brazil.

Richards spoke to People about the shock of the diagnosis and said that it was his son who gave him the strength to face the news of the disease.

“I thought, 'This is my time, I'm ready to go. But my son came to mind a few seconds later and I found myself thinking, 'I have a 9-year-old boy and I wish I was there for him. Is there any chance I have a little longer to live?”

Although the prostate cancer was stage 1 at the time of diagnosis, Richards said that, after analyzing the biopsy, his doctor recommended the complete removal of the organ.

“[O câncer] it needed to be contained quickly,” he told People. “I had to undergo complete surgery. If I didn’t, I would probably be dead within eight months.”

Dealing with the disease and the danger of death was one of the factors that made the 74-year-old actor write a book telling his memories. Richards told People that he kept more than 40 diaries designed to do a complete review of his life.

“I’m approaching 75 years old. The desire to do something like this is perhaps something that comes with age. I wanted to connect my feelings and my memory. I'm surprised at how much I was able to remember,” he revealed.

Michael Richards is the most awarded actor in the cast of “Seinfeld” and owner of three Emmys for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the series, having received one each in 1993, 1994 and 1997. He also competed for an Emmy in 1995 and 1996.

In Brazil, the comedy can be seen on Netflix.
