Selena Gomez invests in food delivery startup valued at $15 billion

Selena Gomez revealed this Tuesday (15) that she has become an investor in startup Gopuff, valued at US$15 billion (about R$84.6 billion).

The company has stood out for offering extremely agile food delivery and convenience services. The actress and singer did not open the amount of her investment, but her relationship with the brand will not be limited to financial support: Selena will be a strategic partner of the company.

Part of the partnership between the artist and the startup will involve the inclusion on the Gopuff platform of products from Serendipity Brands, an ice cream brand that Selena Gomez is co-owner of.

The singer stressed that she was impressed with the startup when she herself used the service for the first time, during a meeting with friends. “The first time I heard about Gopuff was on a night when I was at home with some friends. We needed something from the store, but no one wanted to get in the car and drive there, so someone suggested it to Gopuff. I was surprised how quickly our order arrived. After that, I started hearing their name and seeing the Gopuff brand pop up everywhere,” Selena told Fortune magazine.

Gopuff Vice President Dan Folkman also spoke to Fortune about the partnership, noting that figures like Selena Gomez have a unique potential to attract new consumers to the business, especially given their visibility and reach on social media.

With the news, Selena Gomez gradually consolidates as a very present celebrity in the business world. In late November, the artist announced that she is working with mother Mandy Teefey – known for having produced the series “13 Reasons Why” – at a media company specializing in mental health. Selena also has a vegan beauty products brand, Rare Beauty.
