Selena Gomez launches WonderMind, a company and its App dedicated to mental health

One celebrity who has always been very vocal about the importance of mental health is Selena Gomez. In 2015 she said publicly that she had been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus, which has brought her delicate health problems. Later, in 2016, when the tour of his album began Revival, began to suffer anxiety and panic attacks, as well as physical problems that already gave him lupus, so he canceled the tour.

In addition to canceling the last leg of his second solo tour, he entered a mental health facility to treat his panic attacks and depression which he attributed to his autoimmune disease. In 2020 she reported that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. From these events, Selena has focused her platform on issues important to her, such as research for the treatment of lupus and, above all, mental health. She recently made the leap into her business side with her beauty line Rare Beauty and, apparently, she plans to stay in the business world, since next year she will launch, together with her mother Mandy Teefey and her friend Daniella Pierson, WonderMind, a communication company dedicated to mental health.

They pretend to help people

The three women want WonderMind to allow the general public to focus on mental health in a way that has never been done before, by combating the main detractor of mental health treatments: stigma. The main goal of Selena and co. it’s normalizing mental health and making having those awkward conversations look natural.

We wanted to create something different and innovative that really focuses on what can help people.

You will find useful tools to take care of your mental health

Instead of approaching the subject from a medical perspective or with scolding tones, the content will be treated from an entertainment and lifestyle point of view. There will be a series of podcasts and daily articles where you can access tips, resources and interviews, among other useful tools for your mental health. On the website you can find the following legend, which gives us an idea of what we will find in WonderMind.

No matter how sad or confused you feel, we’ve been through it. So we created a space to work on it every day through honest conversations, physical tools, daily content, and a supportive community.

Mandy, who is Co-CEO, said one of WonderMind’s goals is to provide the general public with the right tools to take care of their mental health.

We want to offer the tools that I had access to in a dedicated center that cost $ 1,500 a day – fortunately, my insurance covered it, but not everyone has access to something like that. One of the tools we are planning to have is a journal with exercises that help people in an entertaining way; not the typical ‘Write five things you’re thankful for’. Health and wellness professionals will help us create fun and cathartic exercises. We will speak with prominent psychiatrists and therapists who charge thousands of dollars an hour, and share the tools they offer. We are also going to interview celebrities and ask them about topics that most people avoid. We want to be that place where people feel comfortable talking about whatever it is.

Selena’s purpose

Selena is not inhibited at all when it comes to talking about mental health and now that she has found “her purpose”, she is very careful about the projects she lends her image to.

Once I understood what was going on in my mind, I was able to discern my purpose. Any project that you are a part of, be it a line with Puma or any other business dealings, must have a charitable or dedicated mental health element. Over the years, I feel like I’ve developed self-confidence – not in the sense of ‘oh, I look pretty’, but rather I feel confident that I know what I’m talking about.

There is still no specific date for the official launch of the app, but they affirm that it will be in the first months of 2022.

Knowing that there are people who are truly passionate about mental health, we think it will surely be worth giving the proposal a try. Do not forget that if our mental health is not optimal, dealing with all other aspects of our life will be much more difficult.
