Selena Gomez says women “have more difficulty” on social networks

Selena Gomez, 32, believes women “have much more difficulty” than men when it comes to negative comments in social media .

The singer and actress discussed the impact of online hatred on an interview with Jay Shetty, alongside her fiancé, composer and music producer Benny Blanco.

In the interview for the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast on Monday (24), the couple, who are promoting their collaborative album “I Said I Love You First”, spoke about their relationship and how public exposure affects him.

Blanco told Shetty that he never reads comments on social networks and prefers to “follow life without worries.” But Gomez is not so carefree.

“Women have a lot more difficulty,” she said, adding that they deal with “much more intense feelings” about their own appearance.

She said that, from her perspective, the situation is “quite insane,” adding: “When I prepare for an event, 90% of the time I just hope to take the picture and sit. It’s my character that is judged, it’s the fact that I’m not enough white, not being Mexican enough.”

She said that sometimes she “succumbing” and looking at what they write about her on the internet, but stressed that “this adds nothing to life.”

“No one cares about this kind of thing when it comes to men,” she said, explaining that women are criticized for everything, from the appearance to who they relate to. “We carry a lot of weight,” he said.

She continued, “My weight is a great example of this. Everyone has something to say and it really saddens me. But not sad, because, you know, I’m not a victim, guys. I just think it’s a little bitter. And I feel guilty about saying that, but it’s true.”

She said she had to move away from social networks, adding, “I’m human, so of course, sometimes I read some things, but most of the time I ignore almost everything.”

Currently, she has no social networks installed on her phone, although she recognizes the positive side of them. “I understand the power of social networks – only it’s something complicated,” he said.
