Selton Mello celebrates the audience of his two films: “I Empatei”

The actor Selton Mello 52, celebrated the audience for his last two films on social media: “I’m Still Here” and “O Auto da Compadecida 2” . Both films have reached 3 million viewers in theaters since their respective releases.

In the first, directed by Walter Salles and a candidate for the main world cinema awards, Selton plays Rubens Paiva, a former federal deputy kidnapped and killed by the Brazilian dictatorship in the 1970s. In the second, a film by Guel Arraes that became the biggest debut of a post-pandemic national film, he plays Chicó, a poor northeastern man from the backlands who tries to survive by carrying out scams alongside his friend, João Grilo (Matheus Nachtergaele).

“I tied. 6 million spectators in cinemas. 2 film genres, 2 different characters”, wrote the actor in a post on his Instagram profile this Thursday (16).

“No. It’s not a big phase. I don’t look at the micro of things, I look at the macro. 40 years in the arts. The big phase started when I started. Successes and failures are teachers. Just be careful to learn from both. So a great phase of forty years,” he said. “Ups and downs, because I am very much alive. Four decades of absolute commitment. A life dedicated to my craft. My love for art guides me.”

“I also don’t see it as something personal. I am an agent of a larger movement: with the public, my eternal allies, and with my peers, many jobs created for artists and technicians. Self-esteem of culture. New lovers of Brazilian cinema. Many layers in these six million”, added the actor.

Selton Mello also took the opportunity to thank his parents in the text: “The great phase was built with my parents. They are the base, my golden cradle. Nothing more important than father and mother. I look at the macro, I look at the invisible and I keep growing, testing my limits. Wanting more, for myself and for others.”
