Selton Mello, Jeferson De and more Brazilians are invited to vote for the Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood, organizer of the Oscars, released this Tuesday (28) the list of new nominees to join the institution. In all, 397 artists and executives who “distinguished themselves for their contributions to cinema” were invited and, if accepted, will be eligible to participate in the selection of the award winners.

Among the names are Brazilians Selton Mello (“O auto da Compadecida”, “O Palhaço”), Jeferson De (“Bróder!, “Doctor Gama”), Bruno Barreto (“Crô: O filme”, “Flores Raras” ) and Emilio Domingos (“Favela é moda”), Sara Silveira (“Vazante”), Ilda Santiago (producer of the Festival do Rio) and Waldir Xavier (“Central do Brasil”).

According to the institution, there are guests from 54 countries, of which 44% are women – 37% belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities. In addition, there are 71 Oscar nominees and 15 statuette winners among the names.

More than 10,000 artists, filmmakers and film executives are already on the list.

Other guests are singer Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, Troy Kotsur (first deaf actor to win an Oscar for his performance in the film “The Beat of the Heart”), Jesse Plemons (Attack of the Dogs) and Ariana DeBose (winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Amor, Sublime Amor”).
