Senate advances on proposal that cuts down on IR purchase of medicines

The Committee on Economic Affairs (CAE) of the Senate approved this Tuesday (17) the Senate Bill 523/11 that allows the purchase of medicines against various diseases to be deducted from the Income Tax.

The proposal includes patients who are treated at home with high-cost and continuous use drugs.

As it was approved on a final basis, if no appeal is presented for the matter to go to the Senate floor, it goes straight to the Chamber of Deputies’ analysis.

According to the text, authored by Senator Alvaro Dias (Podes-PR), the patient will have to prove the purchase of medicines by means of an invoice in his name and the medical prescription presented in the purchase.

The list of treatments contemplated by the project includes cancer, diabetes, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, fibromyalgia and clinical depression.
