Senate approves invitation to debate with Moraes and Barroso on judicial activism

The Federal Senate Inspection and Control Commission approved this Tuesday (21) invitations to the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes and Luis Roberto Barroso for a public hearing that will debate judicial activism.

The request was presented by Senator Eduardo Girão (Podes-CE), who believes that the Judiciary “needs to give satisfaction regarding its actions”. “According to the latest polls, two-thirds of the Brazilian population look down on our Supreme Court, and we know how important it is to our democracy,” he said.

In addition to Barroso and Moraes, the Commission also invited former Supreme Court justices Marco Aurélio Mello and Francisco Rezek, in addition to João Otávio Noronha, from the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ), and other jurists and lawyers.

In addition to Girão, other parliamentarians deem it necessary for the ministers to be present at the hearing, which has not yet been set. ).

In the same session on Tuesday, the commission also approved a second request for an audience with a member of the STF: Nunes Marques. The minister will be asked about a trip to Paris in May this year. According to a report by the Metrópoles portal, the magistrate traveled to the French capital in a jet financed by a lawyer.
