The approval in the Federal Senate of the bill that limits the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on fuels, which now returns to the Chamber of Deputies, and the strike by drivers and drivers in São Paulo, which partially paralyzed the bus fleet in the capital of São Paulo, are among the highlights of this Tuesday (14).
Senate approves bill to reduce ICMS on fuels with compensation to states
The Federal Senate approved, this Monday (13), the bill that limits the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on fuels.
There were 65 votes in favor of the basic text, against 12 votes against and zero abstentions. The text now returns to the Chamber of Deputies.
PLP 18 defines that fuels — as well as energy, public transport, natural gas and communications — are essential and indispensable goods. As a result, state governments cannot charge ICMS on these items above the 17% ceiling established by the text.
Strike partially paralyzes buses in São Paulo; caster is suspended
The city of São Paulo dawned this Tuesday (14) with bus lines partially paralyzed, due to a strike by drivers and collectors, decided on the night of this Monday (13).
An injunction by the Labor Court, on May 31, guaranteed the São Paulo City Hall that 80% of the fleet operates during peak hours, which go from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and 60% at other times, under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 50 thousand.
“The injunction remains valid and SPTrans expects it to be fulfilled. The manager will monitor the fleet from the beginning of the operation”, informed the City to the CNN in note.
Due to the strike, the São Paulo Traffic Engineering Company (CET) suspended the rotation of vehicles, allowing the circulation of plates with endings 3 and 4, this Tuesday (14).
Late for 50 days, gasoline has the longest period without readjustment since 2019
Eighty-two cents separate the price of gasoline sold by Petrobras and gasoline imported from outside Brazil. For distributors, bringing fuel from abroad is more expensive than buying it from Petrobras since April 25, so there are 50 days in the fuel importers’ bills.
The last adjustment in the value of gasoline was announced on March 10 and went into effect the following day. The rise was 18.7% exactly two weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine, starting a conflict that has put pressure on oil prices for months.
It’s 95 days without changing the price. This is the longest period since 2019. Both in 2021 and 2022, the longest interval without readjustments – more or less – had been 58 days. Interlocutors from the fuel market told the CNN that all elements point to an imminent readjustment.
EU announces purchase of 110,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine
The European Union on Tuesday signed an agreement with Bavarian Nordic to supply around 110,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine, the EU Commission and the company said.
The vaccines will be purchased with Union funds, said EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides. Doses should be delivered proportionately to the population, starting with states with the most urgent needs.
Deliveries will begin immediately and will be completed in the coming months, the company said.
Supermoon can be seen all over Brazil
On Tuesday night (14), it will be possible to observe the phenomenon known as the Supermoon. It happens when the Full Moon or New Moon coincides with the moment when the star is closest to Earth, called perigee. When this happens, the Moon can appear bigger and brighter.
The astronomer at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) Daniel Mello explains that the size of the star does not change, only the perception of size to the human eye. In general, the phenomenon occurs two to three times a year. In 2022, according to the researcher, it will be possible to see the Supermoon both in June and in July, and the next occurrence will only be in 2023.
