Senate has projects to curb impact of fuel price readjustments

The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), said, this Wednesday (9), that the PEC of Fuels may no longer be necessary to contain the advance of prices for consumers. According to Pacheco, projects that are in progress at the House may solve the problem.

One of the aforementioned proposals foresees the use of Petrobras dividends to create a stabilization fund. In this same text is the creation of an export tax to mitigate the increase in values.

The other project proposes the establishment of an ICMS collection model by the states.

The Senate president also stated that the proposals should be voted on next week.

Pacheco stated that he wants to work on these two texts, however, if a constitutional amendment is necessary, there is already a PEC authored by Senator Carlos Fávaro (PSD-MT), which even has the necessary signatures for consideration.

This proposal was dubbed by the economic team of the federal government, led by Minister Paulo Guedes, “PEC Kamikaze”.

The nickname came because of the text allowing the Union, states and municipalities to reduce fuel taxes until the end of 2023 without presenting financial compensation.

The PEC also provides for the transfer of R$ 5 billion to states and municipalities to maintain free public transport for the elderly, diesel aid for autonomous truck drivers in the amount of R$ 1,200 until the end of next year and the gas voucher in full. of the cylinder for the low-income population.

Despite the criticism, Pacheco defended that a PEC presented by a senator of the Republic and supported by 26 other representatives must be respected.

However, according to the Senate president himself, the proposal may not be necessary due to the two bills in progress.

“We are going to make an effort to vote on the presentation of the opinion, that there may be amendments, highlights, discussions in the plenary, we are going to exhaust the possibilities in these projects”, said Pacheco. “It is very important for us to provide an answer in relation to fuel prices, and society is very much looking forward to this response from the National Congress”, he concluded.
