The draft law was first submitted in January in order to tighten the supervision of cryptomed operators and stop cases of fraud. Initially, it was proposed to introduce a daily restriction on the withdrawal of $ 1000 per day, but later the limit was increased to $ 2000 for the first five transactions within 30 days. Now the Senate has simplified the limit to withdraw up to $ 2000 for any day.
The bill first returned to the House of Representatives to approve the changes, then the Senate passed and now should be submitted for signature to Governor of Kelly Armstrong.
When the law enters into force, cryptomat operators will be required to receive a license for money transfers. They will also need to place warnings for customers that they can become victims of cryptocurrency scammers. In addition, cryptomat operators will have to send quarterly reports on the location of the devices and transactions data to local authorities, monitor suspicious activity and inform officials about possible fraud.
Earlier, the Commissioner of the Department of Financial Institutions of the North Dakota Lisa Kruse said that in 2023 the Federal Bureau of Investigations received 103 complaints of crypto -mesh from local residents. The declared losses amounted to $ 6.5 million. A member of the House of Representatives of Steve Swontek, who promoted the bill, said that it was because of the lack of regulation that attackers use cryptomats to withdraw money from people.
Last week, the Governor of the state of Nebraska Jim Pillen signed the law on the protection of cryptor users. Transactions for new users are up to $ 2000 per day, and for existing customers – $ 5000 per day.
