Senate passes resolution to avoid US government shutdown

The United States Senate approved this Saturday (30) an expenditure resolution to avoid a shutdown of the American government. The measure had already been approved by the Chamber of Representatives.

The approval of the project comes just hours before a possible shutdown of the American government, the so-called shutdown. Congressional parliamentarians were racing against the deadline, which ended at 11:59 pm (Washington time) this Saturday.

This is because government funding expired at the end of the day, and October 1st marks the start of the new fiscal year. If Congress did not pass legislation to renew funding within that time frame, the federal government would “shut down.”

The spending bill passed with broad bipartisan support has a short deadline (45 days) that includes natural disaster relief but no additional funding for Ukraine or border security.

Now, the measure must obtain approval from President Joe Biden.
