A Republican U.S. senator from Wyoming plans to speak at the annual Bitcoin conference in Nashville to announce his bill that would require the U.S. Federal Reserve to hold some bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset.

The goal of Cynthia Lummis’s bill is to instruct the Fed to buy bitcoin and hold it as a reserve asset, similar to gold reserves, to manage the liquidity of the monetary system and maintain a stable value for the national currency, the dollar.

Senator Lummis has already privately submitted the bill to some of her colleagues on the Senate Banking Committee for review, so they can comment and co-sponsor it, Fox Business sources told The Verge.

Earlier, Cynthia Lummis noted that the Bitcoin network has demonstrated reliability and the ability to function even during serious disruptions in computer systems and power supply, such as the global shutdown of Microsoft network services.
