Gislayne de Deus, who became a civil police officer to arrest her father’s murder, told CNN that the feeling is of justice done after the arrest.
Raimundo Alves Gomes was arrested this Wednesday (25), during an operation carried out in a region of farms, where he was hiding to escape justice.
He is accused of the death of Givaldo José Vicente de Deus, Gislayne’s father, with a gunshot in a bar in the Asa Branca neighborhood, in Boa Vista, Roraima, in 1999.
Gislayne said the family has always lived with a feeling of impunity. The suspect was imprisoned for 17 days at the time of the murder, but was released.
The reason for the murder would be a debt of R$150. Gislayne says that at the time the family had a grocery store and her father would owe the amount to Raimundo, who would be one of the establishment’s suppliers.
The arrest warrant was issued in 2016, more than 15 years after the event. Gislayne says the family always followed the case, but never managed to find the killer.
The murderer became a fugitive from justice. The last time he was seen, before his arrest, was in 2022 in Arraial do Sol, close to the city where he was arrested. On that date, security cameras were unable to identify the license plate of the red car he was driving.
The police officer says that the decision to take the exam for the criminal police was not something premeditated to find her father’s killer.
“I was a lawyer and a course teacher, I worked independently, the pandemic affected my income. I decided to take the exam for the criminal police to have professional and financial stability.”
As a police officer, she says she sought justice for her family and has the same goal for others who want answers to brutal crimes involving their loved ones.
