Sentix Investor Confidence falls to -18 points in April vs. -9.2 forecast

Eurozone investor sentiment continued to deteriorate in the fourth month of 2022according to the latest data from the research group Sentix have shown on Monday.

The indicator collapsed to -18 points in April from -7 in March and against the -9.2 expected. The index reached its lowest level since July 2020hinting at an incoming recession in the second quarter.

The current conditions index fell to -5.5 in April from the 7.8 seen in March.

The expectations index fell to -29.8 from -20.8, its lowest level since December 2011.

Key comments

While the drop in morale in March was expected due to the start of the war in Ukraine, the sharp drop in sentiment in April puts investors on the defensive again“.

“The investors they do not expect that the central bank will be able to rush to the rescue with a looser and more expansionary monetary policy due to the still considerable rate of growth of inflation“.

No region is able to resist negative momentum at the momenteven the important Asian region is already struggling with stagnation.”
