Separatist leader in eastern Ukraine announces evacuation of residents

A Russian-backed separatist leader in eastern Ukraine announced the withdrawal of residents of the separatist region to southeastern Russia on Friday amid an increase in attacks in the region.

Announcing the measure on social media, Denis Pushilin, head of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk, said Russia had agreed to provide accommodation for people leaving and that women, children and the elderly must be removed first.
