A dramatic increase in new cases of coronavirus is recorded in Serbia where in the last 24 hours 23 patients died while 5,069 people were found to be positive for the virus. Compared to the previous day, there are 1,000 more cases.
The percentage of positive daily cases in relation to the number of molecular tests performed reached 25%. Experts estimate that this increase is due to the dominance of the Delta strain which has a high transmissibility in the general population. The fact that 50% of adult citizens have not been vaccinated and there is a complete absence of protection measures also works in favor of the transmission of the virus.
Coronavirus hospitals treat 1,701 patients, of whom 121 are intubated.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, none of the patients with a severe clinical picture were vaccinated. Next week the government will consider taking steps to stop the virus from spreading. The reference hospitals for him coronavirus and the hospital units created by the pandemic for the time being meet the needs, however, it is estimated that if the new cases continue to increase in the coming days at the current rate, there will be a need to use hospital structures of other specialties.
Three new Covid hospitals have been built in Serbia since last October, in Belgrade, Krusevac and Novi Sad, with 2,200 beds, half of which are in intensive care.
