Serbia has signed a 190m-euro ($ 199.67m) deal with carmaker Stellantis to produce electric vehicles at its car plant in Kragujevac, according to Reuters.
“A new era begins today,” said President Aleksandar Vucic after the signing ceremony. He said that the production of electric vehicles will start in early 2024.
Fiat Chrysler (FCA), part of Stellantis, produces cars at its Kragujevac plant and is one of Serbia’s ten largest exporters.
Vuτςiτς said that Serbia, which has not yet produced electric cars, should consider opening several charging stations to attract local buyers, as well as adopting a new energy strategy.
“We need to get cheaper electricity and to achieve that we need to have more renewable energy,” Vucic said. He also said that the Serbian state would participate in the investment with 48m euros.
