Serbian government imposed price reductions on the country’s big supermarkets

The big supermarkets in Serbia today made significant price reductions by applying the government decree on commercial profit. The Serbian government has decided to limit commercial profit to 20% for about 20,000 products. The list includes all food products (bread and pastries, meat, milk and its derivatives, vegetables, legumes, etc.), as well as household chemicals, paper, kitchen accessories, personal hygiene, cosmetics, baby food and diaper. The decision concerns commercial chains which in 2024 had a turnover greater than 38 million euros. Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said that the audits carried out found that prices this morning were reduced on average 15%.
