They have all been acquitted. There are no culprits for the murder of Serena Mollicone. No punishment for the marshal’s entire family Mottola. Father, mother and son were the main defendants. They were acquitted of voluntary homicide. The charges were dropped. This was decided by the Court of Assizes of Cassino, after eight hours in the council chamber.
The prosecutor had asked for 30 years for Franco Mottola, former commander of the carabinieri station, 24 for his son Marco and 21 for his wife Anna Maria. They were all accused of voluntary homicide for the girl’s death in June 21 years ago. The trial went on for 50 hearings with 137 witnesses.
Also in the courtroom were the parents of Marco Vannini, the 21-year-old from Ladispoli, injured and left to die at home by his girlfriend’s family in 2015. The whole Ciontoli family was definitively sentenced. Which did not happen for the Mottolas. «It was our duty to be here, we have become a bit of the symbol of Italian justice because we have had justice and Serena and her father Guglielmo deserve the same. The two cases, as said by the prosecutor, are similar, ”said Vannini’s mother.
According to the report, it was Marco Mottola who banged Serena’s head against a door of the family’s quarters in the barracks. The father, on the other hand, would have suffocated the young woman. Together with his wife, he allegedly took the body to the woods where it was found.
Everyone would have misled. Two other people were on trial and were acquitted. Deputy Marshal Vincenzo Quatrale was accused of external concurrence in murder and instigation to suicide of Brigadier Santino Tuzi, a prescribed crime. For him the required sentence was 15 years. Carabiniere Francesco Suprano replied in aiding and abetting for hiding the door of the crime.
