Sérgio Cabral has a new prison transfer determined by the Justice

The former governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral, was transferred from prison once again. On the night of this Monday (23), the judge of the Court of Criminal Executions, Ana Paula Abreu Filgueiras, determined the change of prison.

Cabral was imprisoned in the 1st Military Firefighter Group (1st GBM), in Humaitá, a neighborhood in the South Zone of Rio. Now, he is in the Special Prison Group (GEP) of the Fire Department, in São Cristóvão, in the North Zone of the state capital.

The decision was motivated by the fact that the 1st GBM is not a prison unit, but a normal fire station. The former prison did not have standard procedures, such as health care and entry and inspection of visitors.

In the decision, Ana Paula Abreu Filgueiras informs that, last Saturday (21), the judge in charge of the court made an inspection of the Special Prison Group (GEP) of the Fire Department and found that the unit is next to two schools, with no proximity to communities.

The report also indicates that the prison is installed at the end of the land and there is no communication with another prison.

In a note, the defense attorneys for Cabral, Patrícia Proetti, Daniel Bialski and Bruno Borragine, stated that “the letter contradicts what had been determined by the Fire Commander himself, who justified the impossibility of the former governor’s permanence in the GEP for reasons of safety”.

Judge Ana Paula Abreu Filgueiras also denied a request for Sergio Cabral to be hospitalized for three days at Hospital Copa Star, in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio. According to the decision, so far, the defense of the former governor has not included in the process the medical reports that prove the diagnosis of diabetes.

The lawyers informed the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro that the service is necessary “due to being 59 years of age, having diabetes mellitus, having stomach problems, using continuous medication, in addition to a family history of hypertension. and heart problems”.

The defense also alleges that Cabral has been in prison for five years and five months and, to date, has not carried out “any health maintenance examination”.

The former governor of Rio was arrested in November 2016 in a Lava Jato operation. Currently, Cabral’s sentence exceeds 400 years.
