The flagship smartphones Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro introduced this week are equipped with Samsung AMOLED screens with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, which support image refresh rates up to 120 Hz and a polling rate of the touch layer of 240 Hz.
After the announcement, Meizu officials confirmed that the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro do not support a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz at a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels. More precisely, at the maximum resolution, the refresh rate is reduced to 60 Hz. When activated, the 120 Hz mode decreases the resolution.
Representatives of Meizu, and also a super-moderator at the official forum of the company confirmed that the developers deliberately refused to simultaneously use the maximum resolution and frequency of 120 Hz, since this dramatically increases power consumption, which will negatively affect the operating time of the device without recharging, while also significantly the heat dissipation of smartphones increases.

That being said, don’t expect to add support for maximum resolution at 120Hz with future software updates. However, it is hoped that Meizu will implement support for a 90Hz refresh rate at 3200 x 1440 pixels.
The smartphones will go on sale tomorrow, and their detailed specifications can be found in our announcements Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro.
