Service for selling indie games Itch.io called NFT a scam

Itch.io, a service for hosting and selling indie games, called non-fungible tokens a scam and criticized companies using them.

Collectible tokens (NFTs) are causing controversy among players in the gaming industry. Some developers are ready to implement NFT in their games, others believe that non-fungible tokens do not carry any value.

Some game developers show interest in NFTs, but are forced to abandon their implementation due to the negative reaction of users. For example, a few months ago, the Steam service banned any games using NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain from being placed on its site. Independent gaming site Itch.io has also clarified its position on collectible tokens.

“NFT is a scam that is destroying the planet. If you think that they are legitimate and benefit someone other than their creators and organizers of financial scams, we advise you to reconsider your life choices. wrote Itch.io on Twitter.

In the comments to his tweet, Itch.io added that any company that supports NFT in any way or cooperates with developers of collectible tokens should be “fucked to hell”. According to Itch.io, companies like this care only about their own profit and are looking for opportunities to get rich more than anyone else.

According to a recent survey conducted by the organizers of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), the vast majority of video game developers are not ready to implement NFT due to the risk of fraud and potential monetization issues.
