Services advance 0.2% in April; Passenger transport surpasses pre-pandemic level for the 1st time

Services rose 0.2% from March to April, informed the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Tuesday (14th). In the previous month, the sector had registered an advance of 1.7%.

The median market estimate pointed to a monthly increase of 0.50%.

With this result, the sector is 7.2% above that registered in February 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The IBGE highlights the 2.3% increase registered in April by passenger transport activities —0.1% above the level of February 2020.

“After two years and two months, passenger transport surpassed the pre-pandemic level for the first time, thus ratifying the greater mobility of the population, reflected in the increase in revenues of companies that operate passenger transport in its various modes. : air, road and subway”, highlights the research manager, Rodrigo Lobo. The activity accumulates a gain of 27.7% between November 2021 and April 2022.

Despite the positive result of passenger transport, the increase in services in April was concentrated in two sectors: information and communication (0.7%) and services provided to families (1.9%).

In this first one, the highlight continues to be the information technology activities, which reached the highest point in the survey’s historical series. “During the height of isolation due to the pandemic, there was a high demand for these services and this movement continues to this day, with companies continuing to demand services such as software development, videoconferencing applications or digital marketing”, says Wolf.

In services provided to families, the greatest influence came from accommodation and food. “It’s a result that comes in the wake of the continuity of the process of resuming face-to-face services, notably, bars and restaurants”, he says.
