Sesc RJ and Senac RJ promote social and professional inclusion for the population of RJ

Sesc is the largest wellness program in the country and Senac is the highest quality reference in professional education. The two institutions are recognized as responsible for transforming the lives of thousands of people who are in a situation of social vulnerability in the State, promoting access to basic rights and including them in the job market.

For more than seven decades, the Senac RJ offers professional education in the most diverse areas, with training, technical, undergraduate, graduate, specialization and distance education programs. With 33 permanent units across the state, the institution remains attentive to the movement of the labor market in order to keep the portfolio of courses always up to date.

Senac RJ has three itinerant units, called mobile schools, which travel throughout Rio de Janeiro, expanding the institution’s regional coverage. The professional courses offered are Gastronomy, Information Technology and Beauty. The mobile schools remain in each region for four months and the courses offered at these itinerant units have the same standard as those in the fixed units program, with didactic material and certification offered to students free of charge.

in the area of Technology , Senac RJ offers the most diverse free courses and technical training. The institution developed partnerships with Assespro RJ – Association of Information Technology Companies of the State of Rio de Janeiro and Resilia, an edtech with an innovative platform, which is launching free courses in Programming, Networks and Data Analysis. Senac RJ is also responsible for the Web Summit Rio 2023, one of the most important technology, digital transformation, entrepreneurship and innovation events in the world. Furthermore, it participates annually in Hacking.Rio, the biggest Latin American programming marathon and, through the partnership with Assespro RJ, participates in the Thinking Digital event.

In addition to the courses, several social responsability worth mentioning:

  • Senac Free Program (PSG): grants free professional qualification in all its areas of activity: Gastronomy, Hospitality, IT, Management, Fashion, Health, Wellness, Beauty, Audiovisual. PSG includes free courses and the Portal do Futuro and Jovem Aprendiz programs.
  • Portal of the Future: awakens in young people more awareness of their potential as individuals and citizens, and their role as transforming agents in their surroundings. In addition to raising awareness of citizenship, young people – from 16 to 21 years old – receive professional training in the areas of Management, Events, Tourism and Hospitality, and all assistance to enter the job market.
  • Young apprentice: trains young people between the ages of 14 and 24 for the corporate market, bringing them closer to companies that can hire them. Senac RJ works in partnership with more than 3,000 companies in Rio de Janeiro, training young people in the areas of Goods Trade, Services and Tourism. There are more than 10,000 students annually enrolled in courses as Young Apprentices in companies from different sectors, such as hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, hospitals, HR consultancies, department stores, etc.
  • Senac in the Community : promotes partnerships with social institutions in vulnerable regions to use spaces for courses, bringing education closer to those who need it most.
  • Boosts RJ: in partnership with Sebrae RJ, it develops territorial centers focused on income generation and employability for that population.
  • Public-Private Partnerships: projects developed with private companies and the Government, according to local needs.

already the Sesc RJ aims to provide well-being and quality of life for commercial employees, their families and society, through actions in the areas of Culture, Assistance, Health, Leisure, Tourism and Education.

With social responsibility at its core, it is a private, non-profit institution that operates with 21 operating units, five of which are hotels. It also has 12 itinerant units, which operate in different municipalities, forming a wide network of services for the population of Rio de Janeiro.

Among its programs is the Table Brazil Sesc RJ , the social mission to combat hunger and food waste, which works to build a more democratic, less unequal and more humane society. The program maintains several partnerships with companies that donate food, serves numerous social assistance institutions and improves the lives of people in situations of social vulnerability.

In the area of ​​Health, the OdontoSesc , which, with its six mobile units, provides basic dental services and takes information on oral health to economically vulnerable communities. The mobile units remain, on average, for three months in each municipality, serving 8 hours a day in cities in the Metropolitan Region and in the interior of the State. Now the mobile unit Women’s Health , performs free screening mammograms and cervical cancer (Pap smears). All this in a vehicle equipped with state-of-the-art technology, capable of reaching regions where there is no fixed Sesc RJ unit.

In the cultural segment, the BiblioSesc it trains thousands of new readers by taking culture to different municipalities in Rio de Janeiro. The libraries are installed in four vehicles with adapted bodies, which make more than three thousand titles available for free consultation and borrowing, in addition to research services and reading incentives. Furthermore, it is present at the main literary events in Rio, such as the International Literary Festival of Paraty (Flip).

O Culture Announcement encourages and supports artistic productions, in their various manifestations, to stimulate development, public education and social inclusion. When Brazil was hard hit by the pandemic and the artistic class was extremely affected, the Public Notice of Culture Sesc RJ Pulsar 2021/2022 offered financial support of BRL 10 million and included 163 artistic projects such as: visual arts exhibitions, presentations of audiovisual works, theatrical and circus shows, dance presentations, literary soirees, shows and music concerts, artistic interventions, performances and virtual works . The success was so great and benefited so many people, including artists and spectators, that the second edition – the Public Notice of Culture Sesc RJ Pulsar 22/23 – will allocate R$ 30 million to 338 selected cultural projects, which will make up Sesc RJ’s artistic program over the next year.

With these actions, Senac RJ and Sesc RJ contribute to improving the quality of life of the population and, consequently, to the socioeconomic development of the State.
