Recently returned to the spotlight thanks to the actor Timothee Chalamet who sported it on the set of Joel Edgerton’s film “The King”, the bowl cut is in fact considered by many to be an impossible style, for the brave.

Yet the Beatles in the Mod period had chosen it as a signature detail, the same style it brought Last onstage: slightly longer in the front with casually side-swept bangs. In the third evening the singer competing with the song Alba, looked like the fifth Beatle who escaped from the group!

In the early 60s, in fact, while Mary Quant he enjoyed revolutionizing the style of the time by giving life to the iconic miniskirt, the world of hairstyle aimed to redo the look by proposing avant-garde cuts and styling for the time, but always with a look at the past. The bowl cut, with the medieval allure of a Benedictine monk, was born in London in the wake of post-war optimism which animated feelings of rebellion, freedom and experimentation which were then reflected in art, fashion, music and lifestyle. Those were the days of Swinging London which had its hotbed of trends at Carnaby Street.

In this mood that breaks the rules, a visionary hairstylist in 1964, Vidal Sasson, creates a new haircut for stylist Mary Quant. It was a short that redesigned femininity, a blunt bob with five points, two at the temples and three at the nape.

A geometric cut, unlike any standard hairstyle of the time, that required little maintenance and represented a change of attitude when it came to women’s fashion, more practical and efficient. Since then it has remained a trendy cut, with a rock allure, suitable for any hair texture and above all it is considered a genderless look. We saw it on Charlize Theron in 2019 in amber tones, while in the men’s version it mixes with a fade cut, with shaded shaves behind the neck and on the sides, just like Sethu and Lazza they played it on the Ariston stage.
