In particular, based on the data announced by the Hellenic Statistical Authority and processed by the Institute of Export Research and Studies (IEES) of SEVE, Greek exports in the period January-November 2021 “ran” at a positive rate of 30.8% and amounted to 36,310, 8 billion euros, compared to 27,767.6 billion euros in the corresponding period of 2020 and 30,962.8 billion euros in 2019.
It was significant in the 11 months of 2021 and the increase of imports, a fact that as emphasized in the announcement of SEVE, resulted in the widening of the trade deficit of our country, a development that “should be taken seriously in shaping the strategy of extroversion in the coming years “.
Specifically, imports of goods in the period January-November 2021 increased by 30.5% and amounted to 57.952.1 billion euros, with the trade deficit widening by 29.9% to 21.641.3 billion euros.
Excluding petroleum products, Greek exports increased by 20.2% in the period January-November 2021 and amounted to 26,277.7 billion euros, with imports in this period, “running” at a positive rate of 19.7%, in 43.271.1 billion euros, compared to the corresponding period of 2020.
Especially for the month of November 2021, the announcement of SEVE emphasizes that Greek exports increased by 47.2% and amounted to 3,896.3 billion euros, from 2,647.3 billion euros. in November 2020 and 2,740.2 billion euros in November 2019. However, imports followed a similar course, since in November 2021 they amounted to 6,666.5 billion euros, increased by 63.3% compared to the corresponding month in 2020, when they had reached 4,081.8 billion euros. As a result, the trade deficit for November 2021 amounted to 2.770.2 billion euros, increased by 93.1% compared to the corresponding month of 2020.
Excluding petroleum products, Greek exports in November 2021 amounted to 2,771.1 billion euros, showing a change of + 31.5% compared to November 2020 and + 37.6% compared to the corresponding month of 2019. At high levels Imports to our country in November 2021 amounted to 4,523.9 billion euros, with the result that the trade balance for the specific month shows a deficit of 1,752.8 billion euros, increased by 485 million euros, compared to of November 2020.
The upward trend of Greek exports as a whole was shaped by the positive course of all sub-sectors, both in relation to 2020 and 2019. In detail, upward trend was recorded by exports of industrial (+ 27%), food (+10, 8%), chemicals (+ 13.7%), machinery and vehicles (+ 20.7%), various industrial products (+ 21%), raw materials (+ 50.2%), beverages and tobacco (+ 15.5%), fats and oils (+ 32.5%), and unclassified products (+ 17.7%). Regarding the destinations of Greek exports of goods, EU countries (27) absorbed the largest share, ie 54%, while third countries 46.0%. In the corresponding period of 2020, the percentages were 57.7% for the EU and 42.3% for third countries.
