Seven grain ships leave Ukrainian ports after revitalization of Black Sea corridor

Seven ships carrying grain left Ukrainian ports on Thursday after the rebirth of the Black Sea grain corridor, according to Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine’s infrastructure minister.

Kubrakov tweeted: “Seven ships transported grain from Ukrainian ports in the morning. No matter what, Ukraine continues to support the world in overcoming the food crisis.”

Grain shipments from Ukraine were at risk after Russia suspended its participation in the initiative over the weekend. He resumed his role on Wednesday.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure said the ships were loaded with 290,000 tonnes of Ukrainian agricultural products and had left the ports of Odessa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhny.

He said one ship was going to Oman and another to China.

In July, after months of negotiations, ministers from Ukraine and Russia signed the grain deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey. Russia has promised to unblock ports on the Black Sea to allow safe passage of grain and oilseeds — some of Ukraine’s most important exports.

According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure on Thursday, the country has exported more than 10 million tonnes of grain on 430 ships since Aug.
