Seven northeastern states have a danger warning for rain at the start of the Easter holiday

The northeast region of Brazil has a danger warning for intense rain at the beginning of the Easter holiday, according to the National Institute of Meteorology. According to Inmet, the states of Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas are expected to be hit by heavy rains. The alert lasts until at least 10 am on Friday (29).

According to Inmet, there is a chance of rain between 30 and 60 mm/h or 50 and 100 mm/day and intense winds between 60 and 100 km/h. Furthermore, there is a risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges.

Inmet guidelines:

  • In case of gusts of wind: (do not take shelter under trees, as there is a risk of falling and electrical discharges and do not park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs)
  • If possible, turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply.

Deaths due to rain

Deaths due to heavy rain this weekend, in Espírito Santo (ES), rose to 20, this Tuesday (26). The information comes from the state government's bulletin, which also showed an increase in the number of missing people to seven victims.

The Scientific Police of the State of Espírito Santo (PCIES) reported that the twentieth victim was recognized as a child in the city of Mimoso do Sul and is still awaiting the release of the body by family members.

Three other female bodies, which were not initially recognized, were identified later that Monday (25). Check the identification of the victims.
