Seven out of ten hospitals in SP have an increase in hospitalizations due to Covid and dengue, says union

Around 71% of private hospitals in the state of São Paulo recorded an increase in the number of hospitalizations for dengue and Covid-19 between February 29th and March 10th. The data comes from a survey carried out by the Union of Hospitals, Clinics and Laboratories of the State of São Paulo (Sindhosp) and released this Tuesday (12).

In the previous period, from January 29th to February 7th, no hospital had reported an increase in hospitalizations for dengue and Covid. On the other hand, 80% of the institutions that participated in the research during this period had recorded a high number of hospitalizations due to dengue.

In relation to the emergency room, 82% of hospitals registered an increase in the number of visits for suspected dengue and Covid between February 29th and March 10th. In the period between January 29th and February 7th, the percentage was 48%.

“The result could probably be influenced by the Carnival period, which allowed large crowds and the high summer temperatures that facilitate the spread of the dengue mosquito in stagnant water. It is important to compare the two surveys and verify that 30 days ago, only dengue appeared in hospitals. Covid rates were discreet”, assesses Francisco Balestrin, president of Sindihosp.

According to the research, the predominant age range for patients with Covid is 30 to 50 years old for 67% of hospitals, this level being maintained in the previous research, which reported that 68% of hospitals indicated a predominant age range of 30 to 50 years old for Covid .

As for dengue, 72% of hospitals confirm the predominant age group of 30 to 50 years in the current survey, which was maintained in the previous survey.
