A gunman wounded seven people on a bus carrying Jewish worshipers in Jerusalem on Sunday, Israeli officials and witnesses said, describing the incident as an alleged Palestinian attack.
The attacker fled into Jerusalem’s Old City, which is home to holy sites for Jews, Muslims and Christians and is in the area where Palestinians claim statehood.
Israel considers all of Jerusalem its capital – status not recognized internationally.
The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, as Jews were leaving the Wailing Wall rites that marked the end of the Sabbath (13).
“Jerusalem is our capital and a tourist center for all religious,” Prime Minister Yair Lapid said in a statement, adding that Israeli security forces “restore calm”.
