Hungary today was accused of seventeen EU countries of violating the fundamental values of the Union through the adoption of laws targeted by LOATKI+community, as tensions between Budapest and a majority of Member States are deeper. The Hungarian Parliament adopted legislation in March that lands the legal basis for the ban on Pride festivals in the country and allows the police to use facial recognition cameras to locate people involved. It also approved changes in the Constitution in April, by which Hungary recognizes only two sexes, the male and the female. “We are very concerned about these developments, which are contrary to the fundamental values of human dignity, freedom, equality and respect for human rights,” governments of 17 countries said in a joint statement.
