“Sex and the City” actress goes on hunger strike for ceasefire in Gaza

Actress Cynthia Nixon, known for her role as Miranda in “Sex and the City”, is going on a hunger strike in front of the White House in the United States, in an appeal for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The 57-year-old actress and activist, who previously ran for governor of New York, stated that she is “fed up” with people who justify the deaths of civilians as “an accident of war”, and begged American President Joe Biden to use its power to put an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Cynthia and other protesters claimed that the American government was partly responsible for worsening the conflict, drawing a parallel with the years of US occupation in Afghanistan.

Two of Cynthia’s three children are Jewish, and the star revealed that she was inspired by one of them to use her visibility for the cause.

“My son asked me to use whatever voice I had to state as loudly as possible that ‘never again’ means ‘never again’ to everyone. In seven weeks, Israel killed more civilians on a small strip of land than in 20 years of war in all of Afghanistan,” she said.

“I’m tired of hearing people justify that civilian casualties are a routine accident of war. There is nothing routine about these numbers. There is nothing routine about these deaths,” he added.

“I would like to make a direct appeal to a president who has experienced a devastating personal loss, to connect with that empathy for which he is so well known and to look at the children of Gaza and imagine that they could be his children,” the actress appealed.

Cynthia initially joined protesters in Washington to protest what would have been the end of a four-day truce in the conflict, which has now been extended for another two days.

“Biden, you are starving Gaza. Permanent ceasefire now!” Cynthia’s sign read.
