A chill cause the lyrics one song which its members shouted brotherhood SPhi Epsilon Mix of University of Miami, at their first off-campus party since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. In a video that saw the light of day and is broadcast by Miami Heraldthe students jump and they sing lyrics that refer to “sex with a dead woman”.
“It gave me the chills, it was awful” says a student, who did not go to the famous pool party, but her friends who did, showed her the relevant video.
The song, which is popular with fraternities across the country, features disgusting lyrics about a woman who dies while dying. The pool party took place at a house about 15 blocks off campus in Coral Gables, and—as you’ll see below— the neighbors freaked out of what was happening there.
Heather Matthews, a spokeswoman for the fraternity, said she had received information that the students had violated the fraternity’s policy and engaged in actions outside the bounds of its values.
“We expect the fraternity to provide its members and the university community with a safe and supportive environment. This is the cornerstone of the experiences one gains as a member of a fraternity and of the university,” the SFE announcement states.
For her part, University spokeswoman Jacqueline Menendez declined to answer US Media whether the video released by the party led to the fraternity’s expulsion.
In a written statement, Patricia Whitely, the University of Miami vice president for student affairs who oversees fraternity life at South Florida’s largest private university, said the videotaped incident “violated university policy and contributed to behaviors inconsistent with the values of the university community and their fraternity”. “We have been associated with Sigma Phi Epsilon for 73 years and support their decision to close the chapter effective immediately,” Whitely said.
According to members of other fraternities at the University, who are not being named for fear of retaliation, the students are “disgusted” by the incident.
