Singer Shakira, 48, revealed that one of her biggest hits, “Hips Don’t Lie”, hardly entered her album “Oral Fixation, Vol. 2”, released in 2005. The Colombian star explained that the material was already ready and distributed when she entered the studio with rapper and producer Wyclef Jean, and realized that she had a hit that could change everything.
“I remember my album was already distributed and then this idea came up. Wyclef and I met and started working in this track,” she began during participation in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The enthusiasm was so much that she did not hesitate to call the then President of Epic Records to convince him to collect the album of stores and include the new song.
“I started working with Wyclef and knew I had a success, so I called the producer who was at the time ahead of the label, and said, ‘You need to collect the albums of the stores,’ and he replied, ‘No way, these albums are already on the shelves.’ Listen this time ‘, and he really did it. We had to redo the album covers and it changed my story. ”
The meeting with Wyclef was even more curious, because Shakira had dreamed of the artist shortly before the collaboration proposal arose.
“The funniest thing is that I had a dream, the most random dream with Wyclef. It was not a sexual dream! It was just a dream. And then I woke up and my manager called me and said, ‘Wyclef wants to work with you.’
The singer also celebrated the success of her current tour, which sold out 11 shows in Mexico City and, for the second consecutive month, occupies the top of the world’s most popular worldwide tour.
“It’s amazing. I’ve been working on this tour a year ago, preparing every detail, from the visuals to music. I set up the biggest repertoire of my career. I’m singing some of my classics from ‘Hips Don’t Liever’, wherever. And it’s a huge production. It’s a huge effort to make this production travel through Latin America,” he said.
“It’s probably the largest that has ever traveled to Latin America. Weigh about 93 tons. The big screen is huge and there are 145 people on the road… So when you arrive and see so many people dancing, singing, crying and thrilling… it’s a party, but people really connect with this song. It’s been like the soundtrack of the lives of many of my fans.”
