Colombian singer Shakira and Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué confirmed this Saturday (4) that they are separating, through their public relations agency.
“We regret to confirm that we are splitting up. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding,” the statement reads.
Shakira, 45, and Piqué, 35, have been together since 2011 and have two children.
The separation was announced after the Spanish website El Periódico reported that the player had had a relationship with another woman.
Shakira is on trial for alleged tax fraud in Spain after losing an appeal on May 26. Prosecutors say he did not pay up to 14.5 million euros in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.
Her legal team said she will continue to defend her case with strong legal arguments.
