Health problems can be common to all people, especially those related to the heart, but the younger someone is, the more vulnerable they feel, especially if they are also sportsman. This also happened in the case of an athlete who participates in Triathlon Ironman, who “lost the earth” when she learned that her chest pain was not due to a tight bra, but to the fact that she suffered heart attack.
According to nypost.com, 35-year-old Anna Cupples from Auckland, New Zealand, during exercise, felt a relative malaise and a chest pain. However, he didn’t care as well she interpreted the malaise as a result of her physical exhaustionwhile the he attributed the pain to the “tight bra” which he wore, as he said.
So, although he initially thought of stopping, he eventually went ahead and simply visited the cardiologist at the end of the day for a routine check-up. Indeed, during the examination, the specialist confirmed the reasoning of the 35-year-old, but asked for some additional preventive tests to be done just in case.
So they took place blood testswhich showed that the athlete, although young, had just suffered heart attack.
“I’m an Ironman triathlete, I felt invincible. I didn’t really think I could have a heart attack,” said Anna Cupples about the health problem she faced.
Misconceptions that can be costly
The 35-year-old may have “lost the ground under her feet” from the initial shock, but she did not think so quickly, as a result after two years to have a second heart attack, despite her young age.
Six years after the first heart attack she suffered, however, she began to take care of her health and not rest on the notion that she is young and an athlete.
According to cardiologist Dr Fiona Stewart “We don’t manage chest pain well for women because of the widespread perception that heart attacks happen mostly to men.” As he emphasizes “it is important to recognize that people with a ‘low risk of cardiovascular disease’ can suffer a heart attack, much less often, but this does not mean that they should not be careful”.
