She was apprehensive and with the TV on, says woman of PM killed in Alemão

The wife of the military police officer killed in the operation in Complexo do Alemão, in Rio de Janeiro, carried out this Thursday (21) told CNN who was awakened by a phone call from a friend of her husband’s claiming he had been shot and was heading to the hospital. Lídia Costa was at home when she received the news and says that she did not know the dimension of the operation in a territory that she classified as a “minefield”.

“I was taken by surprise, I was woken up, my phone rang, and when I answered it was a friend of my husband’s saying that he had been shot, and that he was going straight to Getúlio Vargas, so I was desperate, right? You can imagine my reaction,” she said.

Bruno de Paula Costa’s widow says that when her husband went out to work, she kept the television on waiting for bad news.

“Families, relatives, wives, mothers of police officers, we have no peace or quiet. We were apprehensive all the time. What I’m going to say now happens to the other wives too, we always have the television on. Even when the husband went to work, we always turn on the television to pay attention to the news”, revealed Lídia, who gives motivational speeches.

The PM corporal’s widow says that now her life will be dedicated to fighting for her children, who are autistic, to continue in therapy, studying and for them to be happy. Bruno Caleb is 10 years old and Davi Lucas is 8 years old. “Other mothers who have special children like me know all the heavy load we face in having a special child”, said the speaker.

“My fight will be for my children to have dignity, respect and inclusion until they become men”, added Lídia before ending the interview to serve dinner to the boys.
