A few days ago, an 82-year-old woman was pronounced dead by staff at the Waters Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Jefferson, New York, United States. However, hours later she was found alive in the funeral home to which her body had been sent for the corresponding embalming.
The case reached the authorities, who began the corresponding investigation. The woman (whose name has not been released) was reported dead at 11:15 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., she was taken to the funeral home, where staff found that she was still breathing, and they immediately took her to the hospital.
According to authorities, no one at the funeral home wanted to comment on the matter and the woman’s condition is currently unknown.
This is a terrible situation that caused unnecessary trauma for the affected resident and her loved ones. We respect the privacy and confidentiality of the family and those involved.
It is worth mentioning that just a few weeks ago, a nursing home for the elderly filed a similar case. The affected family filed a lawsuit and the nursing home was fined $10,000.
In this case, the situation escalated as the woman was placed in a zippered body bag and taken to a funeral home, where workers discovered that she was breathing. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and, after a few hours, she died.
